Debauchery: Catchy Label, Great Wine
In a recent ABC News article, Jerry Prial, creator of Debauchery and owner of Gerard Wine Company states, “Debauchery is a great name, but if I don’t have really good wine in the bottle… People will buy anything once. The trick is to get them to buy twice. If there’s good wine in the bottle they will.” This article , which was written about quirky wine titles and catchy labels, recently featured Debauchery as a great example of this. Prial was quoted throughout the article and explained one of the goals of Debauchery; to make people laugh and smile when they hear about the wine.
Debauchery, which has been on the shelves of the largest volume NH State Liquor Stores since April 1, 2010, has caused many people to crack a smile and then go on to taste how good the wine really is. Last month, Debauchery was a hit at the “Seacoast Prom,” at the Gaslight in Portsmouth, NH which was an adult only 80s themed prom that donated all profits to New Heights, a local non-profit organization. Debauchery was also at “Toast to the Coast,” in Hampton, NH which featured food and drink from many of the exceptional restaurants around the Seacoast. Samples of Debauchery were also given out at a recent KC and the Sunshine Band Concert at the Hampton Beach Casino.
This fun and adventurous wine has also been making its way into more and more local stores and restaurants. It was recently put into a few of the Margaritas Restaurants (Dover, Waltham and Medford) and will continuously be showing up in more restaurants and stores as the summer goes on! Though only the two red wines, the cabernet sauvignon and the carmenere, are in the liquor stores at the time being, we are hopeful that the two whites, the sauvignon blanc and the chardonnay, will be on the shelves eventually.
The goal of Debauchery is to be a fun, everyday drinking wine, that gets people smiling and having a great time. So far, it seems as though that is the direction Debauchery is headed in. You will smile as soon as you see the label, and will not be disappointed when you take your first sip…probably when you take your last one though!
