Caps, Gowns and Crowds of People
Where I live, the next week or two are filled with the sounds of graduation. Since I happen to live in a college town, I have both the newly minted “adults” and the folks entering the “real world” for the first time. There are lots of new faces as family and friends descend on the area to help celebrate the achievement of one goal and possibility that lies ahead.
While I see lots of opportunity for debauchery of all sorts in this situation, there is also the cautionary message that we love debauchery but one should practice safe debauchery – stay in one place; walk, don’t drive if you need to go places. That said, holy cow – there a so many reasons to hang out and get some use out of that wine opener.
- Celebrate the graduate – they did a lot of work to get that tassel to move from left to right.
- Celebrate their family – those Moms and Dads certainly get our vote to kick back, put their face to the sun with a nice glass of cool wine in their hands and let out a hefty sigh.
- Celebrate summer – graduation means one more shot at “freedom.” Whether it’s traveling the world after you’ve finished college before you enter the “real world” or enjoying the beach one last time before the rigors of college, the military or the working world kick in, this is your shot to enjoy 3 short months.
I see the potential for many get togethers and parties and I can see exactly where I fit in as I’m poured into a glass and enjoy the show.
What was your favorite way to spend the summer between high school and what came next, or college and the “real world”?
